Modern Wayfarers Speaking: Peter Levitt-sensei
A Talk about Yin Mountain: The Immortal Poetry of Three Daoist Women
In recent posts on The Poet’s Dreamingbody, I’ve mentioned Peter Levitt-sensei, a Zen Wayfarer (guiding teacher of the Salt Spring Zen Circle in British Columbia), a poet and author (One Hundred Butterflies, Fingerpainting on the Moon: Writing and Creativity as a Path to Freedom), and translator (The Essential Dogen with Kazuaki Tanahashi, The Complete Cold Mountain: Poems of the Legendary Hermit Hanshan, also with Kaz Tanahashi, and Yin Mountain: The Immortal Poetry of Three Daoist Women with fellow Zen Wayfarer Rebecca Nie).
In this talk for the Upaya Zen community (sangha) in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Peter Levitt-sama talks about Dao/Tao (道), the goddess culture of ancient China, the female poets who embodied this stream of knowledge and experience, and the themes that flow through this beautiful book he co-translated with Rebecca Nie, Yin Mountain.
