Watch now (6 min) | a poem of mine in the new book DAWN SONGS: A Birdwatcher's Field Guide to the Poetics of Migration, edited by Jamie K. Reaser and J. Drew Lanham
Love this one. The winter snowstorm we had last night silenced the usual 2 eagles softly calling at 4 am in the morning from the large Cottonwood tree in my backyard. The snowy silence was deafening,; I'm so used to these eagles awakening me each day.
Frank, your poetic refrain reminds me of Wendell Berry: "To go in the dark with a light is to know the light./To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,/and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,/ and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings." Completely beautiful.
Thank you. Truly beautiful. I've put the book on my wishlist!
